Small TBMs, often referred to as Microtunneling Boring Machines (MTBMs), typically span cutterhead diameters from 300 mm to 3000 mm. Unlike large-scale subway TBMs, these units are operated remotely from a surface control cabin. Pipe-jacking setups are used behind the machine to drive the conduit forward, keeping excavation work entirely trenchless.
We customize cutterhead configurations, drive torques, and injection systems to suit local geologies. For soft clays, we set up slurry-shield balances. For cobbles or hard rock, we integrate heavy-duty disc cutter arrays and rock crushers directly into the machine shield.
